Do you “get” fashion?
Or should I say do you know your style, what looks good on you?
When I lived in the city, during the day most of my friends and I would be dressed in jeans and a t-shirt that we had found lying on the floor or hidden at the bottom of the washing basket. We would get dressed up for our date nights & girl’s catchup dinners. Now I live in a coastal touristy town-all bets are off. Dressing up means you threw on a sun dress or t-shirt dress over your bathers to pick up the kids from school!
When you only have one child, you have time to slap on some makeup, iron your clothes and and find the right socks that match. When you have 2 or 3 children, the fashion must-haves seem to be at end of your to-do list.
Most of my friends have a hobby. They play hockey, do crafts, bake, photography or go to the gym.
My hobby is buying & reading magazines. Don’t laugh. I have been collecting them for years. It is an addiction and I may be responsible for all the destruction of the Amazon forest, which is cut down to make the paper that my precious magazines are printed on but what is a few trees for a few moments of relaxation?
For me, it is a de-stress, a relaxation thing. I can sit down with my coffee/wine/beverage of choice, switch off my mind and be in my own little world flipping through the pages, taking in the image that is a snapshot in time.
For the longest time I have been collecting Instyle magazine. Which may seem a little odd as I am not a particularly trendy or fashionable person. I have stuck with my classic uniform of jeans, ballet flats, t-shirt, maybe some extra jewellery here or there.
I have taken note of a few fashion bloggers over the past 1-2 years who seem to nail it every time. They do know how to put together an outfit and have mastered the selfie. Or have trained their partner and children in fashion photography.
So last week, I decided to break away from the black & blue uniform I tend to normally wear and try out Vanessa’s #SNSColour 7 day Challenge. (Style and Shenanigans blog)
It was actually fun trying to put colours together, I did feel overdressed and my hubby kept asking me who I was meeting out each day, because I was making such an effort. Again, taking selfie’s continues to be awkward but that is the world of fashion & Instagram.
